Easy and Cute Crochet Mini Bee – Free Pattern

This sweet little Mini Bee is super fun and easy to crochet. Keep reading for the FREE pattern here! It also uses very little yarn so plan on making a whole army of them! They are also super fun in lots of colors. So far I have made blue, pink, green, orange and of corse the classic yellow bee.

Materials

For materials I used Bernat sparkle yarn in the yellow. I also used just the black and white blanket yarn. I put mine on a chain loop with a plastic clip. Then I used 10mm plastic eyes and an I 5.5mm crochet hook. If you wish to adjust the hook size or eye size feel free to do so. You do want your hook to be small so the crochet holes don’t let the stuffing out of your bee. I also used a yarn needle to weave in ends and a small amount of Fiber Fill.

Abbreviations:

  • R = row
  • sc = single crochet
  • MR = magic ring
  • inc = increase (2 stitches into the same space or stitch)
  • bo = Bobble stitch (check out my free YouTube tutorial to show this stitch)
  • dec = decrease (pull up a loop over two stitches, yo and pull though both loops. Making two stitches into one)
  • st/sts = stitch/stitches

To Begin:

Starting with yellow or body color-

R1. 8 sc in MR

R2. (inc) 8x (16 sts)

R3. sc around (16sts) -switch to black yarn on last stitch. (YouTube tutorial to see how I do this)

R4. sc around (16 sts) -switch back to yellow yarn on last stitch-

R5. 6 sc, -switch to white yarn on last stitch- bo in white yarn, 2 sc sts in yellow -switch to white yarn- bo in white yarn, sc 6 in yellow yarn

Now add the Mini Bee eyes. Here is a photo of the eye placement:

R6. sc around (16sts) -switch to black yarn on last stitch-

R7. sc around (16sts) -switch to yellow yarn on last stitch.

R8. sc around (16sts)

R9. dec 8x (8sts)

Add stuffing and close the Mini Bee. Weave in ends. Add a key chain or bag clip if desired.

There are several methods of making the plastic eyes more secure. Glue works great but can be messy. Another way is to use a square of felt. You make a small cut in the fabric and then place it onto the pin of the eye before placing on the backing. I’ll add a photo here next of how this looked for me.

Now you see how cute these little guys are! What color will you make? Thanks for stopping by and be sure to share where you found this pattern with your friends. Happy Mini Bee making! ~Jonna
