Aura Mountain Crochet Blanket

This wonderful blanket is so squishy, heavy and cozy! The yarn lays out the color so you don’t have to change colors, so only weaving in ends from ending a whole skein!

The yarn…..

This yarn is so much fun to work with! It is partial wool so for those allergic I would choose maybe red heart unforgettable yarn even though it is a worsted weight it would still work. Your blanket may be slightly larger. Ice yarns Lana Bella in vivid colors is what gives this pattern it’s name though. The rainbow affect looks like an aura to me or the northern lights. This Lana Bella yarn comes in lots of colors though. Make sure to check them all out!

You can get this yarn on AMAZON or right from ICE YARNS.

This pattern uses both front and back post double crochet. This also means the blanket looks the same from both sides. It is also super heavy like a weighted blanket.

HOOK

I used a G 4.25mm hook for this blanket. If you don’t like that hook you could probably get away with using a 4.00, a 4.50 or a 5.00. But as a disclaimer I have only used the G 4.25. Use other sizes at your own risk.

My favorite hooks are these padded hooks. HERE. They reduce wrist fatigue. I get a lot of this if I don’t use them. With the steal hooks I sometimes have to take days off so my wrists can rest.

BLANKET SIZE

My blanket right now is 38 inches by 38 inches. I have used almost 12 skeins (they are small only 100g/273 yard skeins so don’t freak out) My goal is 48 by 48 for a nice snuggly blanket. It is so wonderful and heavy now, I’m so excited! I will update this post with the total number of skeins when I’m done.

Lovely pattern! I can’t wait to try it out. Question – does the center start to pull to one side like it can with a granny stitch? I notice you don’t flip to work the back side every now and then to correct, so I assume it does not. Or maybe it wouldn’t be noticeable. Hope my question makes sense? Thank you!!

Thank you! I totally understand what you mean about the pulling. This blanket doesn’t do that for me. I think because it uses a single crochet to join at the end instead of a slip stitch. I hope you give it a try!
