Free Crochet Pattern and Tutorial

Originally I created the mini octopus and released the free pattern on instagram. You can view that post HERE. I also have a free tutorial that you can watch on YouTube. I then had so many people ask for a larger version that I decided to share the Maxi Octopus too. For now the pattern will only be available here (scroll down) I will add both patterns to my Etsy and Ravelry for an Ad free option soon too. Thank you for the visit, please leave a comment if you can and I hope you enjoy making many of these cuties!

I will start with the Mini:

And now for the Maxi Octo!

Materials: Super bulky (6) yarn. Bernat Blanket yarn or other similar. You can use any yarn you like but this will adjust the size of the finished piece. Crochet hook 6mm or 6.5mm, 16mm plastic eyes, or darker yarn to embroider the eyes, Stuffing, Stitch Marker, Scissors, Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Abbreviations: Sc = single crochet, ch = chain, MR = magic ring, inc = increase (two stitches into the same space) sl st = slip stitch, dec = decrease (two stitches worked as one) BLO = back loop only, FLO = front loop only.

Body:

R1. Into a MR, 8 sc (8)

R2. Inc into each st around, (16)

R3. (inc, sc) repeat around (24)

R4-8. sc around, (24)

Place 16mm plastic eyes between row 5 and 6, three stitches apart.

DO NOT CUT YARN

Tentacles:

Place a Stitch Marker into the back loop of the first stitch.

Working FLO (front loop only): R9. sc into FLO, * ch 8, inc into each ch (14 its), sc or slip stitch into next 3 sts * repeat around, after you have 8 total tentacle, sc or slip st last two stitches, slip st into the first st, Do not cut yarn.

You can stuff the body now or after the next round, I prefer to stuff after round 10.

Closing Body:

R10. Working into used back loops of R8, dec each stitch around (12)

R11. dec around (6) Cut long tail, using yarn needle or hook weave in tail and pull to close the small space. Enjoy your new maxi Octo!

As an added note you can make the Mini the same as the Maxi when you add the tentacles you do not have to cut the yarn!
